Blue Mountains Retirement Village
Solar InstallationAfter a lengthy and involved investigation into solar systems, it has been approved by the Board to move ahead and have a solar system installed in the Village. It has been decided to install multiple systems in stages with the first stage being a 98.56kw system size installed on Blocks 1 and 2. This will cover just under 40% of our units for their heating and hot water systems.
The Village has accepted the quote from eSmart Solar, which is a Blue Mountains based and owned business. As this is such a substantial investment, Stage 1 will be monitored over the first 12 months after installation to see just how beneficial the solar system installation has been for reducing Village costs. A decision will then be made if we continue with stage 2 and 3. This cost also includes the substantial work that is required to be carried out to update our existing electrical boards and systems prior to the solar systems being installed so they are compliant with current regulations to have the solar installed. The following image shows the proposed plan of where the 224 solar panels will be placed across Blocks 1 and 2.

Roofing UpdatesGoing forward, our next major project will be the replacement of the roof on Block 2, housing Units 50 to 61. We will be installing Colorbond metal roofing that will be replacing the disintegrating concrete tiled roof. This will bring Block 2 in-line with other building in the Village that have already had their roofs replaced as we slowly move through the Village with the hope of replacing all the blocks roofs across the Village over the the few years. These works are required prior to our new solar system being installed.
